Garderos Mobile Operator Architecture

Mobile operators who own large public WLAN/WiMAX networks need to be able to manage subscribers, services, locations, roaming, portal pages, as well as interfaces to payment servers and the SMS centre (SMSC). Most importantly for mobile operators is the ability to be able to quickly and easily redefine service packages, to respond to new marketing models.

Garderos has built a WLAN/WiMAX operational support system (C−OSS) that meets the special requirements of mobile operators who wish to extend their existing services with a new WLAN/WiMAX service offering. The standards-based Garderos platform speeds up time-to-market and eliminates the need to develop costly custom-built software systems.

C−OSS incorporates scalability for an unlimited number of distributed WLAN/WiMAX access controllers, as well as a high-availability configuration which service providers need to guarantee uptime. Integration with existing carrier IT systems is also provided for with customizable APIs. C−OSS supports the authentication and charging of mobile subscribers using bi-directional SMS capability, as well as all commonly-used payment methods e.g. credit card. C−OSS securely transfers accounting data from Garderos High-throughput RADIUS Access Controllers (HAC-R) for WLAN, Garderos Multi-Protocol Access Gateway (MPAG) for WiMAX as well as Cisco SSG. Fraud is eliminated by the secure transfer of data from access controllers to C−OSS.

The key features of the Garderos Mobile Operator Architecture can be summarized as follows:
  • -   SMS integration
  • -   High availability
  • -   Tight integration with Cisco SSG
